Kurdish Runner Breaks Limits to Raise Funds for Cancer Patients in Sulaimani

Sulaimani witnessed an extraordinary feat as Bahjat Hassan ran for 50 hours non-stop at the Family Mall. The main goal was clear: support cancer patients at Hiwa Hospital, the only specialized cancer center in the province.

Hassan holds multiple ultra-running records in Germany. He explained that charity through endurance running motivates him to push limits. His diet included only bananas, dates, walnuts, and almonds, avoiding heavy meals for consistent energy.

During the challenge, fellow athletes and supporters joined him intermittently. They offered motivation and encouragement, keeping spirits high throughout the marathon session. Among them, Jegr Hamaamin praised Hassan, calling him a champion in Kurdistan and worldwide.

As hours passed, donors lined up to contribute. Many spectators said they were inspired by his determination and the cause. Sivan Yaseen, a supporter, noted that the donations help buy vital medicine for cancer patients.

Hassan successfully completed the 50-hour run, marking it as a historic fundraising effort. He said he hopes to organize similar events in other cities and hospitals in the future.

Looking ahead, Hassan shared his ambitious dream to run across all four parts of Greater Kurdistan. This plan demonstrates his dedication to promoting health, charity, and community engagement.

Hiwa Hospital plays a critical role in the region. It serves patients from Iraq and Kurdish areas in neighboring countries. With rising cancer rates, fundraising events like Hassan’s provide essential resources and raise awareness.

Ultimately, this challenge proves that charity through endurance running can inspire communities, generate donations, and create meaningful change. The event showed how determination and compassion work together to improve lives.
