Bahrain has introduced new rules governing representation allowances for diplomatic personnel transferred from overseas missions to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters.
Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani issued Decision No. 44 of 2026, amending provisions of Decision No. 27 of 2019 on the allowance schedule for members of diplomatic and consular missions. The amendment was published in the latest edition of the Official Gazette.
Under the revised regulation, diplomatic staff transferred to the ministry’s headquarters will receive 60 percent of their original representation allowance. The payment will continue for a period equivalent to their service at the overseas mission, up to a maximum of four years.
The decision is intended to regulate the mechanism for granting representation allowances to employees returning from diplomatic assignments abroad.
It also assigns the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Undersecretary for Consular and Administrative Affairs, along with the relevant authorities, responsibility for implementing the new provisions.
The amended regulation is scheduled to take effect on October 1, 2026.
