Iraq And Kuwait Discuss Border Security Cooperation

Iraq and Kuwait have discussed ways to strengthen security cooperation and address recent challenges affecting relations between the two neighboring countries.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein held talks with Kuwait’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Sabah during a visit to Kuwait focused on regional security developments and bilateral coordination.

Hussein said the visit aimed to present Iraq’s position on security challenges facing the country and the wider region, while highlighting the importance of cooperation with neighboring states.

The discussions covered the impact of recent regional tensions on Iraqi and Gulf security, as well as ways to improve coordination between security institutions.

Officials also addressed recent incidents involving Iraqi fishermen in shared waters between Iraq and Kuwait, which resulted in the death of an Iraqi fisherman. Hussein stressed the need for joint mechanisms and preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.

Both sides emphasized the importance of continued cooperation, information sharing, and joint investigations into security issues to protect citizens and maintain strong relations.

The talks reflect ongoing efforts by Baghdad and Kuwait City to enhance coordination and preserve stability along their shared borders.
