HMC Diabetes Centers Recertified by JCI for Excellence in Integrated Diabetes Care

In a major boost to Qatar’s healthcare system, HMC Diabetes Centers recertified by Joint Commission International (JCI) have reaffirmed their leadership in advanced diabetes care. This is the third consecutive Clinical Care Program Certification (CCPC) they have received.

Operated under the Qatar Metabolic Institute (QMI), the centers at Hamad General Hospital, Al Wakra Hospital, and the Women’s Wellness and Research Center are vital to Qatar’s chronic care framework. HMC Diabetes Centers have been recertified and collectively serve over 100,000 patients annually, managing more than 160,000 visits across all three locations.

Moreover, this new certification follows a detailed and rigorous evaluation by international experts. HMC Diabetes Centers recertified status underscores Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) commitment to innovation, quality, and patient-centered care. Therefore, the renewed recognition enhances Qatar’s position as a regional leader in specialized healthcare services.

Importantly, the HMC Diabetes Centers recertified status aligns with the National Health Strategy 2024–2030. This plan specifically targets obesity, diabetes, and other risk factors linked to cardiovascular diseases. Through this framework, HMC’s centers function as Centres of Excellence, focusing on complex care while supporting preventive and community-based treatment models.

Furthermore, HMC’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Khalid Mohammed Al Jalham emphasized the importance of this milestone. “This recertification confirms the strength of our specialized teams,” he said. “It also validates our ongoing strategy to improve secondary and tertiary care services.” The recertified status of the centers is a testament to their unwavering commitment.

Consequently, these centers are helping to shift Qatar’s healthcare model toward more proactive, patient-friendly care. They aim to manage chronic conditions before they become emergencies, reflecting the recertified status of HMC Diabetes Centers. As a result, they bring care closer to the community and reduce unnecessary hospital visits.

Additionally, Dr. Dabia Al Mohanadi, Division Chief of Endocrine and Director of QMI, praised the achievement. “This JCI recognition proves our ability to lead in regional healthcare,” she noted. Recertifying the HMC Diabetes Centers demonstrates our commitment to continuous improvement and excellence.”

Ultimately, the HMC Diabetes Centers recertified status is more than a symbol of success. It reflects a national commitment to world-class care, guided by innovation, teamwork, and a strong vision for the future.
