GCC Ministers Push To Speed Gulf Railway

Gulf Cooperation Council transport and communications ministers have held talks aimed at accelerating progress on the long-planned Gulf Railway project, a flagship initiative designed to strengthen economic and logistics integration across the region.

The discussions took place during the 29th extraordinary meeting of the GCC Transport and Communications Ministers Committee, held via videoconference under the chairmanship of Saudi Arabia.

Kuwait’s Minister of Public Works, Dr Noura Al-Mashaan, said the railway remains a key pillar of Gulf cooperation, describing it as a strategic project that would enhance connectivity between member states and support access to regional and international markets.

According to a statement, ministers reviewed decisions from the GCC Supreme Council’s 19th consultative meeting in Jeddah, with a focus on improving logistics integration and accelerating implementation of the railway project.

Officials reaffirmed that the Gulf Railway is one of the bloc’s most significant infrastructure initiatives, expected to streamline freight movement, reduce reliance on road transport, and improve efficiency in cross-border trade.

The committee also reviewed ongoing technical and coordination efforts among member states, including studies aimed at addressing challenges and advancing implementation steps.

Ministers stressed that continued coordination and regular ministerial follow-up are essential to ensure progress on the project, which remains central to broader plans for regional economic integration within the GCC.
