French Music Day Celebrated With Erbil Fusion

Erbil hosted a vibrant celebration of French Music Day on Saturday, bringing together Kurdish and French musicians in a series of performances that highlighted cultural exchange and artistic collaboration.

Organised by the French Institute in Erbil, the event featured live shows blending traditional Kurdish sounds with French musical styles, reflecting growing cultural ties between the two sides.

French Consul General Yann Braem said the celebration demonstrated the strength of cultural relations between France and the Kurdistan Region, noting that music continues to serve as a bridge between communities.

He said the annual initiative, known globally as Fête de la Musique, encourages musicians to perform in public spaces and make music accessible without barriers.

Beyond performances, the event also highlighted wider cooperation in arts and culture, including fashion, cinema, and visual arts, with Kurdish designers contributing to stage presentations.

A local fashion designer involved in the event described the collaboration as an opportunity to showcase Kurdish creativity on an international platform, emphasizing the role of fashion as a form of cultural expression.

French Music Day, first launched in 1982 by France’s Ministry of Culture, is now celebrated in multiple countries where France maintains diplomatic and cultural presence.

Similar events were also held in other cities across the Kurdistan Region, reflecting a broader programme of cultural activities aimed at strengthening artistic exchange.
