Dubai Signs Strategic Agreement to Enhance Mosque Development

Dubai’s Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) and the Dubai Land Department (DLD)have signed a strategic agreement aimed at boosting the sustainable construction, maintenance, and operation of mosques in real estate developments across the emirate. This partnership involves leading real estate developers and underscores Dubai’s commitment to cultural and humanitarian values.

Strengthening Public-Private Partnerships

The agreement seeks to expand public-private partnerships, ensuring mosques serve not only as places of worship but also as centres of cultural and social influence. It aligns with Dubai’s broader vision of strengthening cultural identity and community engagement.

During the event, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, reaffirmed the emirate’s commitment to preserving its values while pursuing ambitious development goals. He emphasized that this initiative aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, to position Dubai as a global leader in humanitarian efforts.

Sheikh Hamdan also met with mosque patrons, donors, and real estate developers, commending their contributions to constructing and maintaining mosques. He praised the spirit of collaboration between the government, private sector, and individuals, highlighting Dubai’s long-standing commitment to giving and social responsibility.

Mosque Sponsorship Initiative

The Mosque Sponsorship Initiative has received strong backing from major real estate developers, resulting in Dh560 million in contributions. This funding supports projects aimed at building and upgrading mosques in key real estate development zones across Dubai.

Notable developers involved in the initiative include:

  • Emaar Properties – Dh280 million to build 42 mosques across nine areas, accommodating 29,696 worshippers.
  • Azizi Developments – Dh80 million for three mosques, with a capacity of 7,000 worshippers.
  • Damac Properties – Dh50 million for seven mosques, serving 3,600 worshippers.
  • ORO 24 Developments – Dh50 million for six mosques, supporting 3,300 worshippers.
  • HRE Developments – Dh50 million for five mosques, accommodating 3,000 worshippers.

A Model for Sustainable Development

Ahmed Darwish Al Muhairi, Director General of IACAD, emphasized that this initiative reinforces sustainability and community partnerships in religious projects. He noted that private-sector collaboration plays a crucial role in ensuring the continuity of religious services at the highest standards.

Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Land Department, highlighted the role of real estate developers in community development. He stated that the Dubai Land Department is committed to supporting sustainable real estate projects and enhancing Dubai’s vision for sustainable communities.

Strengthening Corporate Social Responsibility

The initiative not only facilitates the development and management of mosques but also strengthens corporate social responsibility. By encouraging the private sector’s involvement in community projects, Dubai is reinforcing its commitment to cultural and religious sustainability.

This landmark agreement marks a significant step in integrating modern urban development with cultural preservation, ensuring mosques continue to serve as pillars of faith and social cohesion.
