Dubai International Airport Operations Resume After Drone Incident Injures Airport Staff

Dubai airport safety came under scrutiny Wednesday morning after two drones fell near Dubai International Airport (DXB). The debris injured four people, including two Ghanaian nationals, one Bangladeshi national, and one Indian national. Authorities confirmed that injuries ranged from minor to moderate.

Dubai Airports, which manages DXB and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), resumed partial operations on March 7 after a brief interruption. Officials urged travellers to avoid the airports unless their airline contacted them to confirm flights. This measure reduces congestion and ensures passenger safety.

Emergency response teams rushed to the scene immediately after the drones fell. Airport personnel had cleared most terminals of passengers in advance. The teams treated the four staff members who sustained injuries, preventing further harm. Officials highlighted that swift action minimized risks and allowed air traffic to continue operating normally.

Authorities reported that this incident follows a previous event on March 1, when a concourse at DXB sustained minor damage. Emergency teams contained the damage quickly and coordinated with airport security staff. Dubai airport safety protocols remain under constant review to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Last year, DXB handled 95.2 million passengers, marking the busiest year in its history and setting a global record for international passenger traffic. December alone welcomed 8.7 million guests, a 6.1 percent increase from the previous year. Flight movements for the fourth quarter reached 118,000, raising the annual total to 454,800, up 3.3 percent compared to 2024. These figures highlight the airport’s operational scale and the importance of maintaining safety.

Dubai airport safety remains a top priority for authorities amid high traffic. Emergency teams, airline operators, and airport management coordinate closely to respond quickly to incidents. Officials monitor the skies continuously and update security protocols to protect passengers, staff, and infrastructure.

In conclusion, the drone incident underscores the need for vigilance and preparedness at Dubai airports. Authorities maintain secure operations through rapid response, clear procedures, and ongoing improvements. Dubai airport safety measures protect millions of travellers and ensure smooth operations at the Kingdom’s busiest aviation hubs.
