Drug Possession Trial Begins in Bahrain

Drug Possession Trial proceedings began in Bahrain against a 39-year-old Bangladeshi man accused of possessing and selling methamphetamine. The High Criminal Court heard that a young Bahraini man confronted the defendant after allegedly seeing him bury suspected narcotics.

The incident reportedly occurred in Hamad Town during the early morning hours of late August. According to testimony, the 21-year-old witness was walking toward a gym when he noticed suspicious activity.

The witness told the court that he saw a man near a house digging into the ground. He suspected the man might have been hiding drugs using a concealed delivery method commonly associated with narcotics distribution.

The witness said he approached the suspect, who allegedly ran away after noticing him. He then chased the man and managed to stop him before examining what he carried.

According to the testimony, the suspect had several plastic bags wrapped with beige tape. The witness believed the packages contained drugs and said the suspect offered him two bags.

The young man then took the suspect to North Hamad Town Police Station. A police officer who received the defendant at the station later testified about the items officers found.

Police reportedly discovered 12 bags containing a crystallised substance believed to contain narcotics. Officers also found a mobile phone during their initial examination of the defendant.

The defendant allegedly told police that he had been placing narcotics at different locations around Hamad Town. Investigators then asked him to identify the locations where he had allegedly left additional packages.

Officers subsequently recovered nine more bags containing crystallised substances from the locations identified by the defendant. Authorities confiscated the materials before transferring the case and seized items to the Anti-Narcotics Directorate.

Investigators later searched the defendant’s apartment in Sitra as part of the continuing narcotics investigation. During that search, officers reportedly found a one-gram roll of shabu and an electronic weighing scale.

A detective told the court that investigators linked the defendant to an organised network involved in importing illicit substances. The detective alleged that the network distributed drugs for profit through an organised method.

According to the testimony, the defendant allegedly stored quantities received from the network before dividing them. Investigators said he then placed portions at designated collection points for distribution around Bahrain.

The defendant reportedly told prosecutors that he worked for a man identified as “Salman.” He also admitted using drugs, according to the prosecution’s account presented before the court.

A laboratory examination subsequently detected traces of shabu in the defendant’s urine. However, the court will consider the evidence and arguments presented by both the prosecution and defence.

Drug Possession Trial proceedings concern allegations that include possession, sale, and personal consumption of methamphetamine. The defendant faces charges linked to both the alleged distribution activity and his reported drug use.

The prosecution’s evidence includes witness testimony, police accounts, seized substances, the weighing scale, and laboratory results. Investigators also presented allegations concerning the defendant’s role within the suspected distribution network.

Meanwhile, the court has not yet reached a final judgment in the case. The defendant remains entitled to present his defence and challenge the evidence presented against him.

Drug Possession Trial proceedings will continue as the court considers the defence arguments and remaining legal submissions. The High Criminal Court adjourned the case until October 13 for the defence to present its arguments.

The next hearing will provide the defence with an opportunity to respond to the allegations. The court will then continue examining the case according to the applicable legal procedures.
