Blue Line Project Triggers Road Closures in Dubai

The Blue Line project has officially begun in Dubai, prompting road closures and diversions in key areas. Moreover, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has initiated early construction works as part of this Dh20.5 billion expansion.

As part of the Blue Line project, the RTA has closed 63rd Street in both directions near the German International School in Dubai International Academic City. This decision allows for essential groundwork related to the upcoming metro line extension.

Additionally, the RTA has stated that alternate entry and exit routes will be provided for the school. The campus, serving over 900 students, will remain accessible throughout the roadworks. However, the RTA has not confirmed a timeline for completing this section.

Therefore, drivers are advised to plan ahead and explore alternative routes. The closure may impact daily school traffic and cause delays in surrounding areas.

In addition, the RTA has introduced traffic diversions in Mirdif and closed the roundabout connecting 5th and 8th Streets near City Centre Mirdif. Consequently, motorists heading from 5th to 8th Street, and vice versa, will need to follow marked detours.

To support mall visitors, the RTA has provided an alternative access road. Furthermore, a temporary U-turn has also been designated near Ghoroob Square to help ease movement for nearby residents.

Dubai International Academic City, established in 2007, is a major educational hub. It hosts universities, schools, and learning centers that serve more than 28,000 students. Clearly, the ongoing Blue Line project underscores the city’s commitment to expanding infrastructure to meet urban growth.

The Blue Line project will add 30 kilometers to the Dubai Metro system. Notably, of this, 15.5 kilometers will run underground. Scheduled to open in September 2029, it will mark the Metro’s 20th anniversary.

The new line includes 14 stations and connects with the existing Green and Red lines. Moreover, key areas such as Mirdif, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and Dubai Creek Harbour will benefit from enhanced transport access.

The RTA confirms the Blue Line will link five urban zones. These include Bur Dubai/Deira, Downtown/Business Bay, Silicon Oasis, Dubai Marina/JBR, and Expo City Dubai.

Ultimately, the Blue Line project is a vital component of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. The plan prioritizes sustainable transit and easier commuting across the growing city.
