Bahrain Showcases Heritage Vision at Regional Archaeology Conference in Qatar

The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities joined the 27th Conference on Archaeology and Cultural Heritage in the Arab World, held in Doha, Qatar. The event, hosted by Qatar Museums and the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), focused on the theme “Sustainability of Cultural Heritage: Challenges and Future Strategies.” Bahrain’s participation highlighted its commitment to cultural heritage sustainability and its regional leadership in preserving history.

Representing the Kingdom, Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Director General of Heritage, presented a detailed research paper titled “The Muharraq City Development Project.” His presentation reviewed Bahrain’s continuous efforts to protect and restore the architectural and cultural identity of Muharraq. He explained that these projects aim to preserve the Kingdom’s heritage while supporting sustainable development goals.

He noted that Bahrain continues to combine innovation and tradition through modern heritage management strategies. According to him, cultural heritage sustainability depends on strong collaboration between governments, experts, and local communities. He emphasized that Bahrain’s experience can serve as a model for other Arab nations aiming to protect their heritage while adapting to modern urban needs.

The conference brought together cultural leaders, archaeologists, and researchers from across the Arab world. They discussed key challenges facing heritage preservation, such as climate change, rapid urbanization, and limited resources. They also shared success stories and strategies to strengthen regional cooperation in safeguarding heritage.

Additionally, the event featured the launch of the “First Arab Youth Forum for Sustainable Heritage.” The forum aims to empower young people and encourage their involvement in protecting Arab history and archaeology. It also seeks to raise awareness about the importance of cultural heritage sustainability among future generations.

Bahrain’s participation reflected its active role in supporting Arab cooperation in culture and archaeology. The Kingdom continues to develop national projects that preserve heritage sites while promoting cultural tourism and education. Through these efforts, Bahrain proves that protecting the past can also secure a sustainable future.
