Bahrain, DHL Join Forces to Build Advanced Aircraft Maintenance Hub

Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) and DHL Express have partnered to launch a new aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility at Bahrain International Airport. This major step highlights Bahrain’s aviation growth, showing the country’s rising influence in regional air transport. The signing took place during the Gateway Gulf Investment Forum 2025, held on November 2–3.

Ahmed Janahi, Acting CEO of Bahrain Airport Company, and Abdulaziz Busbate, CEO of DHL Express for the Middle East and North Africa, signed the agreement. The deal reflects strong confidence in Bahrain’s advanced aviation infrastructure and its expanding role in global logistics.

Under the agreement, BAC will provide a site on the airport’s western apron. DHL Express will build a modern MRO hangar there. The facility will meet global technical standards and help maintain DHL’s Boeing 777 and 767 aircraft. It will also handle A-CHECK inspections, engine replacements, auxiliary power unit servicing, landing gear, and thrust reversers.

This project strengthens DHL’s global operations from Bahrain. It aligns with the company’s plan to expand its global maintenance network. The facility will create new jobs for skilled workers and further support Bahrain’s aviation growth.

Ahmed Janahi stated that this step reflects Bahrain’s dedication to public-private cooperation and sustainable development. He explained that the agreement shows investor trust in Bahrain’s business-friendly environment and world-class infrastructure.

The chairman of Gulf Air Group emphasized the project’s strategic value. He said the MRO facility will reinforce Bahrain’s status as a regional air cargo hub and global service center. He also noted that it will attract investment, encourage innovation, and diversify the national economy.

Abdulaziz Busbate described the project as a milestone for DHL’s regional expansion. He said the facility will improve service quality across the Middle East and North Africa. It will also draw skilled professionals who can support future aviation projects and strengthen Bahrain’s aviation growth.

In the end, this partnership between Bahrain Airport Company and DHL Express represents more than a business deal. It is also a bold move that drives innovation, creates opportunities, and fuels Bahrain’s aviation growth for the future.
