Anti-Human Trafficking Bill Reviewed by State Council in Oman

MUSCAT: The State Council’s Legal Committee recently reviewed the Anti-Human Trafficking bill. The Council of Ministers had referred the bill to the committee for discussion. This important bill was examined during the committee’s eleventh meeting of the second regular session of the eighth term.

Shaikh Sultan bin Matar al Azizi, the Chairman of the Legal Committee, led the meeting. Members of the committee, along with employees from the Secretariat-General, attended the session. The main focus was to review the Anti-Human Trafficking bill, a crucial step in addressing human trafficking in Oman.

The committee carefully considered the report submitted by Majlis Ash’shura regarding the draft law. This report highlighted Oman’s ongoing efforts to strengthen human rights protections and uphold justice. Furthermore, the committee members acknowledged the importance of the bill in preventing human trafficking and protecting vulnerable individuals within the country.

The proposed Anti-Human Trafficking bill outlines clear strategies for preventing, identifying, and prosecuting traffickers. It introduces strict regulations and penalties for offenders. Additionally, the bill emphasizes victim support, offering comprehensive protection and assistance for those affected by trafficking.

Moreover, the bill stresses the importance of international cooperation. Oman seeks to improve partnerships with global organizations and other countries to combat trafficking across borders effectively.

The committee members also pointed out the necessity of aligning the national legislation with international standards to fight human trafficking. They agreed that, in addition to enforcement, the law must ensure comprehensive victim protection and recovery measures.

By the end of the meeting, Shaikh Sultan bin Matar al Azizi emphasized the bill’s role in reinforcing Oman’s legal framework. He stated that the bill is a vital step in supporting human rights efforts in Oman. The committee plans to continue reviewing the bill, making necessary revisions before presenting it for final approval.

The discussion represents an essential moment in Oman’s fight against human trafficking. The country remains committed to eradicating this crime and ensuring the safety and dignity of all individuals within its borders.
