Oman-Algeria relations are entering a powerful new chapter as His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik prepares for a state visit to Algeria. This marks the first official visit by an Omani Sultan to the North African country, underlining the deepening partnership. Both sides have spent over 50 years building a relationship grounded in mutual respect and shared values. In recent years, they have expanded cooperation into areas like renewable energy, desert agriculture, and petrochemicals. The visit aims to unlock new economic opportunities and highlight the two nations’ unified diplomatic vision.
Last October, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune visited Muscat, where the two countries signed eight wide-ranging memoranda of understanding. These MoUs focused on sectors such as education, investment, media, and sustainable development. One key achievement was launching the Omani-Algerian investment fund to finance joint ventures in high-priority fields. The two countries continue to focus on strategic sectors like tourism, financial services, and technology. Oman-Algeria relations have flourished due to shared goals, strong leadership, and steady diplomatic efforts.
Economic cooperation has seen clear progress. Trade between Oman and Algeria jumped nearly 48% in 2024, reaching OMR 62.988 million. Oman’s exports to Algeria accounted for nearly all of that figure, while imports from Algeria stayed below RO 1 million. Omani private companies have also taken bold steps in Algeria, including SOGEX Oman’s $150 million investment in power and desalination projects. The Suhail Bahwan Group, meanwhile, continues to operate a $3 billion urea complex with plans to expand production.
Cultural and academic ties are growing in parallel with economic collaboration. Oman is increasing the number of its students studying in Algerian universities. The countries are also engaging through art festivals, archives cooperation, and shared participation in book fairs. These efforts align with Oman Vision 2040, which seeks to deepen international partnerships in culture and education. Oman-Algeria relations reflect this comprehensive vision across all sectors.
Both governments maintain close coordination on international issues, especially regarding Arab unity and the Palestinian cause. Political consultations reinforce mutual trust and align foreign policy goals. Leaders from both sides emphasize peaceful dialogue, respect for international law, and regional stability. A clear roadmap now guides cooperation between ministries, businesses, and institutions. Oman-Algeria relations continue to evolve as a model of modern bilateral partnership.
