The operator of Mall of the Emirates, one of Dubai’s most iconic shopping destinations and home to its famous indoor ski slope, has unveiled plans for a $1.3 billion expansion and renovation project.
Majid Al Futtaim, the Dubai-based conglomerate behind the mall, announced that the major revamp aims to transform the retail hub into a “next-generation lifestyle destination.” The project will add 20,000 square meters (215,278 square feet) of space, accommodating 100 new retail outlets.
Already home to hundreds of stores and restaurants, the mall attracted more than 40 million visitors in 2024 alone. Situated along the bustling Sheikh Zayed Road, the Mall of the Emirates has become a central part of the city’s urban landscape, rivaled only by the Dubai Mall. Mall of the Emirates first opened in 2005.
The upgrade comes as part of efforts to maintain Dubai’s status as a global shopping and tourism hub, particularly during the scorching summer months when temperatures regularly exceed 45°C (113°F) with intense humidity. Indoor attractions like the Mall of the Emirates remain a vital escape for residents and tourists alike.
