Qatar Central Bank Introduces Multiple Wallets per Mobile Number via QMP System

Qatar Central Bank (QCB) has introduced a new feature in the Qatar Mobile Payment (QMP) system. This feature allows users to open and manage multiple mobile wallets under the same phone number. This development is part of QCB’s broader vision under the Third Financial Sector Strategy. It aims at modernizing and expanding the country’s digital financial services.

Announced through QCB’s official X account, the new feature enables users to register two wallets. These wallets can be registered with different payment service providers using the same mobile number. It also allows users to designate a default wallet for receiving transfers. Additionally, it provides the flexibility to manage and switch the default account as needed.

QCB highlighted that this move represents a key step forward in mobile payment innovation. It is designed to enhance user convenience, stimulate competition among service providers, and promote financial inclusion across Qatar’s digital economy.

The initiative aligns with QCB’s strategic goals to upgrade digital payment infrastructure. It aims to foster a more inclusive, efficient, and competitive financial ecosystem in the country.
