The Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Qatar League is making a highly anticipated return for its second season. It will bring more opportunities for young athletes across the country. The expanded youth basketball initiative—organized by Qatar Foundation (QF) in collaboration with the NBA and supported by the Qatar Basketball Federation—will now feature two leagues for youth ages 11 to 14. This includes a newly introduced under-12 division.
Set to run from April 18 to May 31, the league will host a total of 70 boys and girls teams. Each team will represent an official NBA team. Matches will take place at QF’s Multaqa (Education City Student Center) and the Qatar Basketball Federation’s facility. These venues will turn into hubs of basketball action and community spirit.
To jumpstart the season, a youth clinic will be held on April 16. It offers boys and girls aged 11 to 16 the chance to train with experienced coaches. The clinic, divided into two age groups (11–13 and 14–16), will focus on basketball fundamentals. This includes dribbling, passing, shooting, and defense. Additionally, it will emphasize teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership.
In addition to the league and youth clinic, the NBA’s Her Time To Play (HTTP) initiative is also returning this year. Dedicated to empowering young female athletes, the program will feature panel discussions and workshops. It will have a special focus on mentoring the next generation of female players and leaders.
As part of the HTTP initiative, QF will host a coaching clinic for women on April 19. It will be from 1:30–3:30 pm at the QF Recreation Center. The session is designed to provide female coaches with practical tools. These tools will help build inclusive, inspiring basketball environments.
With strong support from international basketball bodies and a mission to foster youth development through sport, the Jr. NBA/WNBA Qatar League is poised to energize the local basketball scene. It aims to build a strong foundation for future generations of athletes in Qatar.
