Shura Council Speaker Reaffirms Gulf Unity in Arab Parliamentary Talks

Speaker of Qatar’s Shura Council, HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, took part in a key coordination meeting of the Arab Parliamentary Group. This meeting was ahead of the 150th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), which begins Sunday in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent.

During the meeting, Arab representatives reviewed the General Assembly’s agenda and prepared joint positions on several pressing issues. A major focus of the discussions was a proposal to add an emergency item to the agenda. This addresses recent developments in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Shura Council Speaker reaffirms Gulf unity by emphasizing the importance of collective Arab action during the talks. The group also discussed its nominations for vacant roles within the IPU’s standing and subsidiary committees. Their aim is to boost Arab representation in global parliamentary forums.

A representative of the Arab Geopolitical Group also briefed the members on recent actions taken by the IPU Executive Committee. The update included progress reports on key initiatives and outlined upcoming priorities. This helps to align Arab parliamentary positions ahead of the main assembly.

On the sidelines of the gathering, HE Al Ghanim held a bilateral meeting with HE Ahmed bin Salman Al-Musallam, Speaker of Bahrain’s Council of Representatives. The two officials reviewed cooperation between their respective parliaments and explored new areas for joint Gulf parliamentary action.

Shura Council Speaker reaffirms Gulf unity by stressing stronger coordination between Qatar and Bahrain in regional and international forums. Both sides voiced their support for expanding inter-parliamentary collaboration within the Gulf Cooperation Council framework.

Meanwhile, HE Ahmed bin Hitmi Al Hitmi, another member of Qatar’s Shura Council, participated in the Gulf legislative coordination meeting. This session took place ahead of the fourth conference of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, which begins Saturday.

Participants reviewed the final statement of the upcoming Non-Aligned conference and discussed shared legislative priorities. As the sessions continue, Shura Council Speaker reaffirms Gulf unity. This reflects Qatar’s ongoing commitment to regional cooperation and effective parliamentary diplomacy.
