National Museum Enhances Cultural Tourism with New Initiatives

The Board of Trustees of the National Museum of Oman met on Thursday for its 13th session. The meeting, held at the Museum’s headquarters, focused on recent activities and future plans.

Chairing the meeting was Salim Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, who is also the Chairman of the Board of Trustees. The discussions centered on the Museum’s evolving role in Oman’s cultural tourism sector, particularly the National Museum of Oman.

One key topic was the approval of the Museum’s annual report for 2024. The report highlighted significant progress made over the year. Additionally, plans to establish a branch of the State Hermitage Museum in Dhofar were discussed. This partnership aims to strengthen cultural ties and enrich Oman’s tourism sector.

Another major initiative brought up during the meeting was a project dedicated to reviving traditional Omani male attire. This effort is designed to reinforce Omani cultural identity. The project will showcase Oman’s unique heritage while also contributing to preserving its customs.

In line with the Museum’s goal to promote cultural tourism, the meeting also addressed the development of a mobile app. This app will be available in Russian and aims to introduce Oman’s history and culture to Russian-speaking tourists. By targeting this specific audience, the National Museum of Oman hopes to increase Russian tourist visits to Oman.

The Museum’s leadership emphasized that these efforts align with its broader strategy to boost the Sultanate’s position as a leading cultural tourism destination. Through these initiatives, the National Museum of Oman is making a notable contribution to the country’s cultural tourism sector.

These discussions mark a new chapter in Oman’s cultural tourism. The Museum’s future efforts will continue to play an important role in shaping the country’s cultural and tourism landscape. The National Museum of Oman is central to these efforts.
