Spring Literary Week Brings Together Writers and Art Enthusiasts

The seventh day of the Spring Literary Week witnessed several engaging events celebrating literature and culture. Organized by the General Union of Writers and Authors in Iraq, this third edition, titled A Spring Stroll with a Book, attracted a large audience of literature lovers and writers.

One of the key highlights of the event was the book signing for The Architectural Structure of the Modern Narrative Filmby author Kazem Murshid Al-Salloum. Recently published by the union, the book explores cinematic techniques in contemporary filmmaking. Many attendees gathered to meet the author, discuss his work, and gain insights into the book’s themes.

The first session of the day, moderated by critic Saad Al-Tamimi, focused on honoring poet Hassan Abdul Radi. Recently awarded the Iraqi Creativity Prize, the poet shared his literary journey and experiences. He emphasized his deep connection to the poetry movement of the 1980s, recalling the release of his first collection, The Plague. Despite his contributions to multiple literary genres, including criticism, essays, novels, plays, and children’s literature, he declared poetry his foremost passion. To showcase his work, he read a selection of poems covering various themes and emotions.

The second session featured a performance by the Iraqi Maqam Ensemble, led by artist Taha Gharib. The group performed a selection of traditional Iraqi songs, including Fouq Al-Nakhal, O Yabeh, Ayan Ya Doctor, and Ya Qalbi Sel Wa Dhoubi Sel. Their performance captivated the audience, drawing enthusiastic applause and deep appreciation from those present.

Spring Literary Week continues to offer a vibrant space for artistic expression, uniting writers, poets, and musicians. The event not only highlights Iraq’s rich literary heritage but also fosters cultural exchange and artistic dialogue. As more sessions
