Kuwait Sees Strong Growth with $1.2 Billion in January Contract Awards

Kuwait experienced significant growth in January, with $1.2 billion in contract awards, placing it third in the region. This growth is largely driven by transportation and energy projects, specifically those aimed at infrastructure development in the country.

Of the total, seven contracts amounting to $847 million are focused on transportation projects approved by the Public Authority for Housing Welfare. These projects target the development of infrastructure in areas south of Saad Al-Abdullah City, located in Jahra Governorate.

Notably, two major contracts were awarded to the Chinese company Gezhouba Group, valued at $557 million. Additionally, a local Kuwaiti company, the Kuwaiti Company for Construction of Factories and Contracting, secured a third contract worth $290 million.

Kuwait’s energy sector also saw significant investment in January. Two contracts, worth a combined $209 million, were awarded to the Public Authority for Housing Welfare. One contract is for establishing a 400/132/11 kilovolt power station in Nawaf Al-Ahmad Residential City, valued at $105 million. The other, priced at $104 million, is for the development of a similar power station in South Sabah Al-Ahmad Residential City.

In the maritime sector, Kuwait awarded two additional contracts to the Ministry of Public Works. These include a $100 million contract for the development of Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port (Phase 1) and a $50 million contract for the development of the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port headquarters building for the Ports Authority.

The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, in total, saw contract awards worth $29.5 billion in January. The UAE led the way with $12.8 billion in awards, followed by Saudi Arabia at $2.97 billion. Kuwait came in third, with its $1.2 billion in projects, while Qatar, Oman, and Bahrain rounded out the list.

This surge in contract awards marks a continued push in infrastructure development and regional collaboration in the Gulf, positioning Kuwait as a key player in the region’s growing market.
