Shura Council Praises Amir’s Visits to India and Iran

The Shura Council has commended the outcomes of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s recent visits to India and Iran. These visits led to key agreements aimed at strengthening Qatar’s international partnerships.

During its weekly session on Monday, chaired by Speaker HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, the Shura Council highlighted the significance of HH the Amir’s visit to India. The visit resulted in a bilateral strategic partnership agreement, alongside multiple agreements and MoUs. These covered trade, investment, energy, education, culture, and security. The Council emphasized that these agreements will boost cooperation and benefit both nations.

Additionally, the Shura Council praised HH the Amir’s official visit to Iran, underscoring its importance in fostering diplomatic dialogue and economic collaboration. The visit is expected to enhance regional stability while promoting mutual interests between Qatar and Iran.

The Council also acknowledged HH the Amir’s participation in the consultative meeting on February 21 in Saudi Arabia, attended by GCC leaders, Jordan’s King, and Egypt’s President. The Shura Council described this meeting as a crucial platform for Arab nations to coordinate efforts in addressing regional challenges. It is essential for ensuring collective security and stability.

During the session, the Council reviewed a draft law on combating doping in sports. It referred it to the Education, Culture, Sport, and Information Affairs Committee for further examination. It also discussed a report on the damage caused by rainwater accumulations. The Council considered recommendations from the Health, General Services, and Environment Committee.

Furthermore, the Shura Council examined plans for hosting the Asian Parliamentary Assembly’s Standing Committee on Budget and Planning meeting in November 2024. It also reviewed its December 2024 visit to the Saudi Shura Council. Additionally, HE Omair bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi’s participation in an IPU briefing on violence against women in politics was discussed.

At the session’s conclusion, Al Ghanim informed members about the Shura Council delegation’s participation in the 7th Arab Parliament Conference in Egypt on February 22. The conference focused on supporting the Palestinian cause, rejecting displacement and annexation plans, and coordinating Arab efforts in international forums to protect Palestinian rights.
