Houthi Airport Attack Draws Kuwait’s Condemnation

Kuwait has strongly condemned the Houthi Airport Attack targeting King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued its condemnation on Sunday, October 11, describing the strike as a serious threat to civilian safety and aviation security. The ministry also reaffirmed Kuwait’s support for Saudi Arabia following the incident.

According to the ministry, the attack occurred on Saturday and caused casualties among civilians of several nationalities. Those affected included passengers and airport employees, both Saudi nationals and foreign citizens. Furthermore, the strike forced authorities to suspend airport operations temporarily, disrupting activity at a major international transport facility.

In its statement, Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry said the incident violated international law and international humanitarian law. It argued that targeting civilian property and essential infrastructure undermines protections intended to safeguard people during conflict. The ministry also warned that attacks against aviation facilities create risks extending beyond the immediate location.

The statement characterized the incident as a serious escalation that threatens civilians and commercial air traffic. Consequently, Kuwait called for those responsible to face accountability for their actions. The ministry emphasized that protecting airports remains essential because these facilities serve passengers, airline personnel, and other members of the public.

Kuwait also expressed full solidarity with Saudi Arabia, describing the two countries as closely connected partners. The ministry reaffirmed its support for measures Riyadh considers necessary to protect national security and stability. It also highlighted the importance of safeguarding citizens and residents throughout Saudi territory.

Moreover, the ministry stressed that Saudi Arabia’s security directly relates to Kuwait’s own security. It extended that principle to other members of the Gulf Cooperation Council, emphasizing their shared regional interests. This position reflects Kuwait’s view that threats to one Gulf state can have wider implications for neighboring countries.

The ministry also conveyed condolences to Saudi leaders, the government, and the Saudi people. It extended sympathy to the families of victims from other nationalities who died in the attack. Additionally, Kuwait expressed wishes for the injured to recover quickly following the incident.

Beyond expressing solidarity, Kuwait urged the international community to take stronger action to protect civilian infrastructure. The ministry called for measures that would prevent similar attacks against airports and other essential civilian facilities. It also emphasized the need to hold those responsible accountable under applicable legal frameworks.

The statement placed particular emphasis on civil aviation, which depends on secure facilities and reliable operating conditions. Attacks against airports can endanger passengers and employees while interrupting transport services. Therefore, Kuwait argued that the international community must treat threats to aviation infrastructure as a serious security concern.

The Houthi Airport Attack has prompted Kuwait to renew its calls for civilian protection and regional solidarity. The ministry’s response combined condemnation of the strike with condolences for victims and support for Saudi Arabia. It also urged international action to reduce the risk of further attacks and protect essential civilian facilities.
