Dubai Fraud Losses reached Dh11.9 million after two suspects allegedly deceived several residents through a sophisticated phone scam. Dubai Police arrested the suspects following an investigation into multiple reports involving threats and false legal claims. The suspects allegedly posed as representatives of official and international entities while targeting residents by telephone.
According to investigators, the suspects contacted victims and claimed that authorities had linked them to criminal cases abroad. They then warned victims about serious legal consequences and pressured them to transfer money overseas. The scammers claimed officials needed the money for verification and promised to return it after completing the process.
However, the victims never received their money back, and the scheme caused total losses of Dh11,877,532. Some victims also sold gold jewellery after the suspects claimed earlier transfers did not meet the required verification amount. As a result, the fraudsters persuaded victims to send even larger sums through overseas bank transfers.
The suspects also instructed victims to book hotel rooms and avoid communicating with relatives, friends, or other people. Police said the scammers used this isolation tactic to increase psychological pressure and maintain control over their victims. Consequently, victims remained separated from people who could have questioned the suspicious demands.
Dubai Police responded by creating a specialised task force within the Anti-Fraud Centre. Investigators reviewed complaints, followed financial transactions, and examined communications linked to the reported cases. Meanwhile, officers worked to identify the individuals who directly communicated with victims and requested financial transfers.
The investigation eventually led police to two suspects who allegedly handled communications with victims. Officers arrested both individuals and began legal proceedings against them after identifying their alleged roles. During questioning, the suspects admitted their involvement in the phone fraud operation.
The suspects told investigators that an organisation outside the country recruited them through social media. According to their statements, the organisation supplied personal information belonging to victims and provided prepared communication scripts. The suspects also received operational instructions through a dedicated application and earned commissions from successful fraud operations.
Police examined mobile phones seized from the suspects during the investigation. Officers found victims’ personal information, messages, and conversations connected to several reported fraud cases. Those findings provided investigators with additional evidence linking the suspects to the reported operations.
The case highlights how fraudsters can combine false authority, intimidation, and psychological pressure to manipulate victims. In this case, the scammers used alleged international criminal cases to create fear and urgency. They then encouraged victims to act quickly without consulting family members or independently verifying the claims.
Dubai Fraud Losses also demonstrate the financial consequences that can follow when victims trust unsolicited demands. Police therefore urged residents to question unexpected calls involving money, banking information, or alleged legal investigations. Authorities specifically advised residents to verify suspicious communications through official channels before taking action.
Dubai Police also warned residents against transferring money because of threats or pressure from unknown callers. They advised the public not to share banking credentials or personal information with unsolicited contacts. Residents should instead contact relevant authorities directly when callers claim to represent government bodies, banks, or other institutions.
Authorities further encouraged residents to report suspected fraud attempts through the appropriate police reporting channels. Early reporting can help investigators identify patterns, trace financial movements, and potentially prevent additional victims from losing money. Police also continue monitoring emerging fraud techniques as criminals adapt their methods.
The investigation shows the importance of maintaining caution when strangers request financial transfers under urgent circumstances. Furthermore, claims involving overseas cases should prompt residents to verify the information independently. Residents should avoid following instructions that isolate them from family, friends, or trusted advisers.
Dubai Fraud Losses reached nearly Dh11.9 million in this case, according to the investigation. Police arrested two suspects after tracing the alleged operation and examining evidence from seized devices. Legal proceedings will continue as authorities address the reported fraud and pursue those responsible.
Dubai Police reaffirmed its commitment to combating financial crime and responding to new fraud methods. The force also called on residents to remain alert when dealing with suspicious calls and messages. Authorities stressed that verification through official channels remains essential before residents provide information or transfer funds.
The investigation serves as another warning about scams that rely on fear, urgency, and false official identities. Residents can reduce their exposure by questioning unexpected demands and refusing pressure to transfer money. They should also seek independent confirmation before responding to claims involving legal cases or financial investigations.
