State Arms Monopoly Urged by President Nizar Amedi in Baghdad

Iraqi President Nizar Amedi firmly advocated for establishing a complete state arms monopoly during a regional panel discussion. He stated on Saturday that official security institutions alone must hold weapons throughout the entire sovereign territory. Furthermore, he emphasized that government authorities must pursue this critical mandate responsibly without permitting foreign interference. Consequently, national political dialogue continues prioritizing institutional defense structures over independent armed group influence.

President Amedi highlighted that establishing a complete state arms monopoly receives broad support across the whole country. He explained that the national constitution, top religious leaders, and political parties fully support these governmental actions. Furthermore, the general public strongly endorses official initiatives aimed at consolidating all military equipment under state control. Therefore, federal authorities maintain strong national backing as they move forward with comprehensive security sector reforms.

Government officials recently accelerated systematic programs designed to curb the operational influence of various armed groups. However, certain prominent groups set strict prerequisites before agreeing to transfer heavy weapons to official forces. Furthermore, these factions demand the total withdrawal of foreign troops alongside major alterations to regional security arrangements. Nonetheless, federal administrators remain dedicated to establishing unified command frameworks across every governorate without making security concessions.

President Amedi specifically clarified that regional security organizations like the Peshmerga maintain legitimate legal status nationwide. He stressed that these official northern forces function as regular defense elements alongside the main national army. Furthermore, national defense policy explicitly exempts legal state institutions from active campaigns targeting illegal armed groups. Ultimately, federal leaders view establishing a clear state arms monopoly as essential for long-term national stability.
