Circassian Heritage Shines At Jordan’s Jerash Festival

Traditional Circassian music and dance took center stage at the 40th Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts as the Sons of the Mountains troupe delivered a vibrant performance celebrating the community’s rich cultural heritage.

Performing at the Southern Theatre before a large audience, the ensemble from the International Academy of Circassian Culture presented a series of folkloric dances accompanied by live traditional music and colorful heritage costumes.

The performance highlighted the history and artistic traditions of the Circassian people through choreographed routines that reflected themes of honor, chivalry, elegance and community. Among the featured performances were Yaslamia, Thabarefa, Abkhazia, Woj Hasht, Zaghlath, Bashashah Qafah, Mazduk and Caucasus, each showcasing different elements of Circassian folklore.

Festival-goers responded warmly throughout the evening, with the troupe concluding the show with its signature “Sons of the Mountains” performance, celebrating the spirit and pride of the Caucasus.

The International Academy of Circassian Culture welcomed the opportunity to participate in the festival’s landmark 40th edition, describing the event as an important platform for promoting cultural exchange and preserving traditional heritage.

At the end of the performance, the academy’s president, Yanal Hatak, honored Jerash Festival Director Yazan Al-Khudair in recognition of his efforts in organizing this year’s event.
