Kuwait EPA Warns Against Illegal Demolition Waste Dumping

Kuwait’s Environment Public Authority (EPA) has urged residents, contractors and demolition companies to dispose of construction and demolition waste responsibly, warning that illegal dumping could lead to fines of up to KD 500.

EPA Director of Public Relations and Media Sheikha Al-Ibrahim said demolition waste must be transported to designated disposal sites rather than being left on roads, sidewalks or outside homes. She described proper waste management as an environmental, legal and social responsibility.

The authority is monitoring the environmental impact of demolition work taking place alongside Kuwait Municipality’s “Kuwait Is More Beautiful Without Encroachments” campaign across the country’s governorates.

Al-Ibrahim said dumping demolition waste in unauthorized locations violates Article 33 of Kuwait’s Environmental Protection Law, which permits waste disposal only in approved containers or designated sites.

She warned that illegally discarded waste not only damages the appearance of residential areas but can also obstruct traffic, pose risks to road users and harm the environment.

Under the law, offenders face fines of up to KD 500 and are required to remove the waste, restore the affected area and cover any related costs.

The EPA called on contractors and individuals carrying out demolition work to comply with environmental regulations, saying responsible waste disposal is essential to protecting public spaces and improving the quality of life across Kuwait.
