Bahrain Launches Smart Shopping Platform For Youth

Bahrain’s Ministry of Industry and Trade has launched the Smart Shopping platform during the Youth City 2030 programme, aiming to encourage responsible shopping habits and raise awareness of consumer rights among young people.

The initiative is led by the ministry’s Consumer Protection Department in cooperation with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). It forms part of the ministry’s participation in the annual youth programme, organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs with support from the Labour Fund (Tamkeen).

Intisar Abdel-Aal, Director of the Consumer Protection Department, said the platform is designed to equip young people with the knowledge and practical skills needed to make informed purchasing decisions.

She said the initiative combines awareness with hands-on activities, helping participants better understand consumer rights and responsibilities while promoting sustainable consumption.

Abdel-Aal added that the programme reflects the ministry’s commitment to involving young people in national initiatives and encouraging them to play an active role in supporting sustainable development.

The Smart Shopping platform features interactive activities, competitions and practical experiences that teach participants how to compare products and services, read commercial information, and identify misleading promotions.

The ministry said the initiative is part of its broader efforts to strengthen consumer protection, promote responsible consumption and support the development of a more informed and sustainable society in Bahrain.
