GCC And WIPO Sign Intellectual Property Agreement

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening collaboration in intellectual property and developing Gulf capabilities in the sector.

The agreement was signed in Geneva by Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary General of the GCC, and Daren Tang, Director General of WIPO. It focuses on expanding expertise, supporting specialized training programs, and promoting knowledge exchange between both sides.

Al-Budaiwi said the agreement will contribute to developing Gulf professionals working in intellectual property and enhance the role of the Intellectual Property Training Center, which operates under the Patent Office at the GCC General Secretariat.

The partnership will include training initiatives, exchange of experiences, and cooperation on programs designed to strengthen intellectual property systems across GCC countries.

During their meeting, officials from both sides discussed ways to expand cooperation and reviewed initiatives that could benefit from WIPO’s expertise in innovation, patents, and intellectual property development.

The agreement reflects the GCC’s efforts to build knowledge-based economies and support innovation as a key driver of sustainable growth across the region.
