GCC Condemns Attack on Bahrain, Backs Maritime Security

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has condemned the recent Iranian attack on Bahrain, reaffirming its full support for the Kingdom while calling for stronger efforts to safeguard regional security and freedom of maritime navigation.

In a statement, GCC Secretary-General Jasem Al-Budaiwi described the drone attack as a serious violation of Bahrain’s sovereignty and said continued attacks on civilian facilities and critical infrastructure threaten regional stability and undermine ongoing efforts to reduce tensions.

Al-Budaiwi stressed the GCC’s solidarity with Bahrain, reaffirming the bloc’s support for all measures taken by the Kingdom to protect its sovereignty, territorial integrity and the safety of its citizens.

Separately, Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also condemned the attack, describing it as a flagrant breach of Bahrain’s sovereignty and international law. The ministry warned that continued hostilities risk undermining regional initiatives aimed at preserving peace and promoting de-escalation.

The GCC chief also welcomed Oman’s decision, announced in coordination with the International Maritime Organization, to establish a temporary maritime corridor to evacuate more than 11,000 stranded seafarers through the Strait of Hormuz.

Al-Budaiwi said the initiative complies with international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, helping ensure the uninterrupted movement of maritime traffic and supporting the stability of global supply chains.

He also criticised reported Iranian objections to the initiative, reiterating the GCC’s commitment to protecting freedom of navigation and supporting regional and international efforts to enhance maritime security, reduce tensions and maintain stability across the Gulf.
