The international Wiki Loves Earth photography competition has returned to Kuwait for a second consecutive year, inviting photographers to capture and share images of the country’s natural landscapes and biodiversity.
Organised by Wikimedia Kuwait, the 2026 edition encourages citizens and residents to upload photographs of protected areas, wildlife, wetlands and desert ecosystems to Wikimedia Commons under free licences, making the images publicly accessible worldwide.
The initiative forms part of the annual global Wiki Loves Earth contest, which aims to document natural heritage sites across participating countries. Photographers are encouraged to contribute images of national parks, nature reserves and environmentally significant locations to help build a permanent digital archive.

Organisers said the competition seeks to highlight Kuwait’s environmental diversity while promoting awareness of conservation efforts and the importance of protecting natural ecosystems.
By contributing photographs to Wikimedia Commons, participants support the expansion of freely available educational resources and help showcase Kuwait’s landscapes and wildlife to an international audience.
The competition made its debut in Kuwait in 2025, when two entries from the country received international recognition, drawing attention to Kuwait’s natural environment and photography talent.
