Kuwait marked on Tuesday the second anniversary of Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah’s appointment as Crown Prince, an occasion reflecting the country’s focus on stability, diplomacy and national development during a period of regional uncertainty.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled was named Crown Prince in June 2024 through an Amiri order issued following the recommendation of the Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. His appointment was later formalised through a decree and received broad official and public support.
Since assuming the role, the Crown Prince has taken part in a series of political, diplomatic and security-related engagements, particularly as tensions across the region have continued to shape Gulf affairs. In recent months, he has visited several military and security institutions, including the Ministry of Defence, the National Guard and the Ministry of Interior, where he praised personnel for their role in protecting national security and maintaining readiness.
Kuwait has also continued its diplomatic activity on the regional and international stage. Earlier this year, the Crown Prince represented the Amir at the Extraordinary Consultative Summit in Jeddah and later attended major international gatherings, including the UN General Assembly in New York and emergency discussions related to developments in the Middle East and the Palestinian issue.
The anniversary comes as Kuwait continues efforts to strengthen economic development and institutional stability while balancing regional diplomacy with domestic priorities. Over the past year, the Crown Prince has overseen official delegations, inaugurated national projects and received visiting regional and international officials.
Born in 1953, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled has held several senior positions throughout his political career, including foreign minister and prime minister. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1978 and later served as ambassador to Saudi Arabia before taking on leading government roles across multiple administrations.
