Qatar Confirms Sufficient Livestock Supply Ahead of Eid Al-Adha

The Ministry of Municipality in Qatar has announced that current livestock supplies are sufficient to meet market demand ahead of Eid Al-Adha, as authorities intensify preparations for the annual religious season.

Represented by the Livestock Department, the ministry said local sheep stocks, combined with imported quantities secured under the approved seasonal plan, are expected to fully cover consumer needs during the holiday period.

Officials stated that supply data is being continuously monitored and updated according to market demand, with information to be released through official channels when necessary.

The ministry said it had launched an integrated operational plan early to ensure the availability of sacrificial animals, maintain market stability, and support balanced supply and demand throughout the Eid season.

Preparations include ongoing coordination with local livestock breeders, approved import companies, veterinary quarantine facilities, and regulated livestock markets.

As part of efforts to support domestic production, the ministry said it is working with Widam Food Company and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry through an initiative aimed at encouraging local sheep production. The programme includes purchasing livestock from breeders at competitive prices and providing free concentrated feed to participating farmers.

Authorities also confirmed that livestock supply operations for Widam Food Company began on Thursday, alongside technical and logistical support for sheep breeding and fattening projects aimed at increasing local production capacity.

The ministry said imported livestock continue to undergo strict veterinary and preventive checks. These include monitoring the epidemiological situation in exporting countries, laboratory testing at entry points, quarantine procedures, and periodic inspections in local markets.

Officials added that import permits are regulated under clear health requirements designed to diversify import sources and maintain stable supply chains.

The ministry urged consumers to purchase sacrificial animals only from approved markets and advised the public to ensure livestock are free from visible signs of illness. It also stressed the importance of using licensed slaughterhouses during Eid Al-Adha to protect public health and safety.
