The Jabal Akhdar rose project has reached 65 percent completion, showcasing Oman’s commitment to agricultural innovation and value-added growth. This initiative emphasizes enhancing production quality, expanding cultivation, and supporting local communities.
The project, managed by the Agriculture and Fisheries Development Fund in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, involves a total investment of OMR 150,000. Officials expect the initiative to conclude by the end of 2026.
As part of its development plan, the project conducts detailed studies to gather baseline data on rose cultivation in Al Jabal Al Akhdar. These studies also explore opportunities for SMEs specializing in rose-derived products. By building an integrated value chain, the project aims to strengthen the sector economically.
Furthermore, the initiative promotes the expansion of rose cultivation. Officials support planting an additional five acres of native roses. They also introduce agricultural mechanization and modernized farming practices, boosting productivity by up to 50 percent. Training programs for rural women enhance their capacity to produce rosewater, soaps, lotions, and cosmetics.
Approximately 120 farmers currently benefit from the project. They receive small manual tillers, terrace rehabilitation, and free rose seedlings. These measures aim to increase yields and improve the quality of local production.
In addition, the project supports SMEs in extracting rose oil and essence. By providing specialized equipment, the initiative adds value to local products and ensures their long-term sustainability. These steps also expand opportunities for local manufacturing and marketing.
Officials emphasize that the Jabal Akhdar rose project will continue evolving through multiple phases. Future plans include introducing advanced agricultural technologies, developing new high-quality rose products, and strengthening local and international marketing channels.
Through these efforts, Omani rose products are expected to become more competitive in global markets. The initiative also creates broader investment opportunities and contributes to sustainable development in the Al Jabal Al Akhdar region.
The Jabal Akhdar rose project demonstrates how agricultural innovation and community-focused strategies can generate economic growth while empowering local farmers and SMEs.
