IndiGo Imposes Fuel Surcharge on Oman–India Flights Amid Rising Jet Fuel Costs

Oman India flights are becoming costlier as IndiGo implements a fuel surcharge on domestic and international routes. The airline introduced this charge effective March 14, 2026, in response to rising jet fuel costs amid ongoing Middle East tensions. Consequently, passengers can expect higher airfares for new bookings.

The fuel price increase reported by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) shows more than an 85% surge in the region. Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) accounts for a significant portion of airline operating expenses. Therefore, the new surcharge is a moderate measure to limit passenger impact while covering rising costs.

For flights within India and the Indian subcontinent, the surcharge is Rs425 (OMR2) per ticket. Routes to the Middle East will carry Rs900 (OMR4.5), while flights to South East Asia, China, Africa, and West Asia will see Rs1,800 (OMR8). Europe-bound tickets now include Rs2,300 (OMR11) per passenger.

Meanwhile, Air India also introduced a phased fuel surcharge on domestic flights from March 12 and for flights to SAARC countries. The airline explained that these adjustments are due to rising jet fuel prices linked to the geopolitical situation in the Gulf region. Both carriers plan to expand surcharges gradually for other international destinations.

IndiGo emphasized that it remains committed to affordable and convenient travel. The airline will monitor fuel prices continuously and adjust the surcharge as necessary. Passengers should expect transparent communication regarding future fare changes.

Experts note that rising aviation costs impact both airlines and travelers. The fuel surcharge is designed to keep ticket prices stable without causing sudden major increases. Airlines use such phased adjustments to ensure business continuity and passenger safety.

In addition, Oman India flights reflect the interconnected nature of global air travel. Fuel price fluctuations in one region can ripple across multiple routes, affecting airlines, freight, and passengers. Therefore, the surcharge balances operational costs with passenger affordability.

Travelers are advised to check updated booking fares and plan ahead. Airlines suggest reviewing ticket terms, as surcharges vary depending on destination and booking class. Early bookings may help minimize additional costs.

Ultimately, Oman India flights are now more expensive due to fuel price pressures and geopolitical challenges. Both IndiGo and Air India aim to maintain reliable services while addressing rising operating expenses effectively.
