Omani Youth Gear Up for Global Robofest After Winning RoboMed Challenge

Omani innovators are set to represent their country at the Global Robofest finals after winning a pioneering robotics event in Muscat. The RoboMed challenge, the first healthcare robotics competition of its kind in Oman, took place on 7 February 2026 at Planet International School. STEAM Leaders in Oman partnered with Lawrence Technological University from the United States to organize the contest, drawing students eager to showcase technological creativity and problem-solving skills.

In addition, the junior RoboMed category, students from Indian School Muscat claimed first place. Four team members — aged 12 to 14 — formed “Team Artilink.” These young innovators designed and programmed an autonomous robot to serve as a smart healthcare assistant. Their project impressed judges with its real-world focus on patient safety and accessible technology. The win qualifies Team Artilink to compete at the Robofest World Championships in Michigan, USA, from 14 to 16 May 2026.

Team member Nusrat Mohiuddin explained that Artilink aims to improve emergency response and medication management. The system pairs a wearable health-monitoring bracelet with a mobile assistive robot. It also includes an automated medication dispenser. The bracelet tracks vital signs like heart rate, blood oxygen, and fall detection. In emergencies, the robot moves toward the person and sounds an alert to attract nearby caregivers or family members.

Moreover, Artilink sends SMS alerts with critical health data to pre‑set emergency contacts or medical professionals. This feature ensures help arrives even when no one stands beside the patient. The automated medication dispenser supports consistent and safe drug intake, which can reduce caregiver burden. These functions make the device a promising tool for home care, assisted living, as well as rehabilitation environments.

Robofest’s emphasis on practical solutions aligns with Omani innovators’ goals to address real societal challenges. Moreover, the competition encourages teams to create systems that can positively impact people’s lives. Through this exposure, participants gain opportunities to interact with global peers and learn from experts in robotics, engineering, and healthcare technology.

Competing at the World Championships will expose these young innovators to an international platform. They will meet peers from different countries and exchange ideas on cutting-edge technologies. This experience builds confidence and prepares them for future academic as well as career paths in science and technology.

Furthermore, the success of Team Artilink reflects Oman’s growing strength in STEM education. Schools, local organizers, and international partners continue supporting robotics programs across the country. Educators believe such achievements inspire other students to explore science and innovation.

Robofest and similar challenges also tie into Oman Vision 2040, which prioritizes knowledge-based development and technological advancement. By promoting robotics and artificial intelligence, the nation seeks to improve quality of life and build human capital. The achievements of these young innovators demonstrate how education can support national goals in healthcare innovation and digital transformation.
