UAE Launches First ‘Durra’ Missile Boat for Kuwait’s Navy in Historic Ceremony

Abu Dhabi recently marked a major milestone with the Kuwait Navy modernization, unveiling the first Durra missile boat. The event showcased regional defense cooperation and advanced naval engineering. Meanwhile, the ceremony highlighted UAE-Kuwait strategic ties.

The launch took place at Abu Dhabi Shipbuilding, a leading regional shipyard. Students and industry experts observed the unveiling of the 62-meter-long vessel, named Al-Noukhatha. This occasion coincided with the company’s 30th anniversary celebrations and the UAE-Kuwait “Brothers Forever” week, emphasizing both national pride and regional collaboration.

The event brought together naval officials and defense experts from both countries. In addition, the launch highlighted the operational capabilities of the new vessel. The Durra missile boat will strengthen maritime security, enhance fleet readiness, and safeguard strategic national interests. Consequently, it represents a leap forward in regional defense technology.

Abu Dhabi Shipbuilding has grown significantly since its founding in 1995. Initially providing maintenance and repair services for the UAE Navy, the company now constructs advanced ships for international clients. Covering 330,000 square meters, it employs around 1,500 skilled workers. Therefore, the facility combines scale, expertise, and advanced engineering capabilities.

The Durra project is part of a larger contract between EDGE Group and Abu Dhabi Shipbuilding. The deal supplies Kuwait with cutting-edge missile boats as part of its ongoing Kuwait Navy modernization plan. The vessels are designed for both defense readiness and long-term strategic capability expansion. As a result, the partnership strengthens bilateral defense cooperation and regional security.

Officials highlighted that the Durra launch represents the largest naval export contract in the Middle East to date. In addition, the ceremony demonstrated how technological innovation supports national security objectives. Industry observers noted that the program positions the UAE as a hub for naval engineering and defense exports.

Experts also emphasized training and operational integration for the Kuwaiti crew. Advanced systems onboard the vessel require specialized skills for navigation, missile handling, and fleet coordination. Consequently, the project strengthens both technical expertise and operational efficiency for the Kuwait Navy.

The Durra launch further cements the strong strategic ties between Abu Dhabi and Kuwait. Moreover, it illustrates how regional cooperation can combine advanced technology with shared security interests. Overall, the event reflects both achievement in naval engineering and the broader goal of Kuwait Navy modernization.
