Iraq and Syria Strengthen Ties Through Security and Border Dialogue

Iraq and Syria took a significant step forward in security and cooperation during a high-level phone call on Tuesday evening. The conversation took place between Iraq’s prime minister and Syria’s president. The leaders focused on shared challenges and regional stability.

During the call, Iraq emphasized its commitment to supporting Syria’s security and stability. The prime minister highlighted the importance of dialogue in resolving ongoing crises. He also stressed the need to guarantee the rights of all Syrian communities. In addition, he reaffirmed support for Syria’s territorial unity and state sovereignty.

Meanwhile, the Syrian president confirmed his country’s commitment to securing the shared border with Iraq. He praised the Iraqi government’s efforts and measures in border protection. He also welcomed continued coordination to prevent any security threats.

Both sides agreed that stronger security and cooperation remain essential to confronting regional risks. They specifically discussed joint efforts to pursue the remaining elements of the ISIS terrorist group. This issue continues to represent a shared concern for both governments.

Furthermore, the leaders addressed ways to enhance bilateral coordination in the security field. They stressed the importance of information sharing and operational collaboration. These steps aim to strengthen border control and prevent cross-border infiltration.

The discussion also included plans to reopen border crossings between the two countries. For years, security conditions forced several crossings to remain closed. Reopening them could support trade, economic recovery, and civilian movement. Therefore, both sides expressed interest in advancing this process.

Officials noted that improved border management would benefit local communities on both sides. It would also help stabilize border regions affected by conflict. As a result, economic activity could gradually recover in these areas.

The call reflects ongoing diplomatic engagement between Baghdad and Damascus. In recent months, both governments have sought to rebuild cooperation across multiple sectors. Security coordination remains a top priority in these efforts.

Observers believe that closer ties could reduce regional tensions. They also argue that coordination may limit the resurgence of extremist threats. At the same time, dialogue helps avoid misunderstandings and escalation.

Iraq has repeatedly stated that it supports regional stability through dialogue. It continues to emphasize respect for sovereignty and international law. Syria has also expressed readiness to work with neighboring countries on shared priorities.

Overall, the phone call marks another step toward deeper security and cooperation between Iraq and Syria. If these efforts continue, they may lead to tangible improvements on the ground. Such progress could enhance stability and trust between the two neighboring states.
