Kuwait-Japan Relations Strengthened as Sheikh Nasser Receives Prestigious Honor

Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah’s recognition highlights the impact of fostering strong diplomatic relations. Japan awarded him the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun, emphasizing the impact of fostering strong diplomatic relations on international cooperation.

Additionally, the award honors Sheikh Nasser’s decades-long work to deepen Kuwait-Japan ties. He served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Chief of the Amiri Diwan, and Prime Minister. Throughout his career, he promoted political, economic, and cultural collaboration.

In 1990, during the Gulf War, Sheikh Nasser visited Japan to request support for Kuwait. His efforts led Japan to provide about $13.5 billion in aid and to send the Self-Defense Forces overseas for the first time. This visit laid the foundation for long-term trust between the two nations.

Later, as Chief of the Amiri Diwan, he helped arrange visits by the Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Japan to Kuwait. He also organized the 13th Amir of Kuwait’s visit to Japan in 1995. These exchanges strengthened bonds between the Kuwaiti ruling family and the Japanese Imperial Family.

Even after leaving office, Sheikh Nasser maintained close ties with the Japanese Imperial Family. His engagement also spanned two generations, showing the lasting impact of fostering strong diplomatic relations. He continues supporting partnerships in trade, culture, and development.

In recognition of these achievements, Japan awarded him the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun. The honor celebrates decades of work to strengthen bilateral relations and demonstrates the benefits of trust and collaboration.
