Halabja Comes Alive for Annual Pomegranate and Autumn Festival Celebration

Halabja is celebrating once again with the opening of the Halabja Pomegranate Festival, drawing thousands of visitors to the city. The event highlights the region’s rich agricultural heritage and cultural traditions, making the Halabja Pomegranate Festival a symbol of local pride.

The 11th edition of the festival transformed Halabja into a vibrant scene filled with color, aromas, and festive energy. Visitors enjoyed the scent of fresh pomegranates, honey, and Kurdish delicacies while strolling through festival grounds. This year features 650 booths showcasing local produce, crafts, and culinary delights, attracting both locals and tourists.

Pomegranate stalls lined the festival grounds, their ruby-red fruits reflecting Halabja’s natural abundance. Local farmers proudly presented their harvests, often holding open pomegranates as a testament to the region’s fertile lands. Traditional Kurdish clothing, music, and performances added to the cultural richness, develop the immersive experience for all attendees.

Authorities declared Thursday an official holiday in Halabja to allow families and visitors to fully participate in the celebrations. The festival extends over three days, coinciding with the weekend, ensuring that even more people can join the festivities and celebrate Halabja’s agricultural achievements.

Organizers expect over 300,000 guests this year, surpassing last year’s 285,000 attendees. The festival emphasizes not only agricultural productivity but also community engagement, cultural preservation, and tourism promotion. Visitors can explore handcrafted items, taste traditional dishes, and witness the region’s unique customs.
