Pakistan is taking major steps to deepen its agricultural collaboration with Qatar, aiming to improve food security and expand trade. Officials highlighted that a strong agricultural partnership could create opportunities for exporters, investors, and farmers.
During a high-level meeting in Islamabad, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research announced the creation of a joint working group on agriculture. This group will identify priority projects and develop a structured framework for bilateral collaboration.
The minister emphasized Pakistan’s emerging agricultural exports, including dry camel milk shipments to the United States and China. Saudi Arabia has also shown growing interest. He introduced investment-ready projects, including Rhodes grass exports and large-scale feedlot fattening farms. These projects aim to support Qatar’s food and feed security while boosting Pakistan’s farming sector.
He encouraged Qatari investors to explore Pakistan’s agricultural opportunities, ensuring land access, streamlined procedures, and coordinated support at every stage. Pakistan’s agri-exports to Qatar remain limited, highlighting untapped potential for growth.
Qatar’s Ambassador in Islamabad praised Pakistan’s agricultural potential and skilled workforce. He called them essential for achieving Qatar’s Vision 2030 food security goals. The ambassador also revealed plans for Qatar’s commerce minister to visit Islamabad soon to explore investment opportunities. Both countries agreed to appoint focal points for continuous coordination.
Pakistan and Qatar also committed to formalizing their cooperation through a Memorandum of Understanding on Agricultural Collaboration. This MoU will strengthen business-to-business connections between Pakistani exporters and Qatari importers. It will also promote sustainable agricultural practices and enhance food security initiatives.
Through this partnership, Pakistan aims to increase agricultural exports, attract foreign investment, and strengthen economic ties with Qatar. Analysts noted such cooperation could reshape regional agriculture and create long-term benefits. By investing in joint projects and modern farming methods, both countries show commitment to food security and sustainable trade.
The creation of a joint working group on agriculture and the MoU marks a significant milestone. It ensures effective collaboration, helps address challenges, and promotes mutually beneficial opportunities in agriculture.
