Dhofar Emerges as Oman’s Investment Powerhouse with Surging Economic Activity

Dhofar is experiencing remarkable Dhofar’s economic growth this year, driven by rising investment activity, commercial expansion, and industrial development. These developments reflect Oman’s focus on diversifying the economy under Oman Vision 2040.

According to Mohammed bin Khalifa al Badrani, Director General of the Directorate General of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion in Dhofar, key indicators show strong acceleration in investment and development during the first half of 2025. The governorate registered 1,204 new commercial licences in the second quarter alone. By June, Dhofar had a total of 63,193 registered commercial entities, signaling growing investor confidence and Dhofar’s economic growth.

The construction sector is one of the fastest-growing industries. Residential and non-residential building projects surged 452.5 percent compared to last year. The Directorate issued 757 new licences in construction during the second quarter, up from only 137 the previous year. This growth reflects rising urban development, housing demand, tourism projects, and industrial infrastructure.

Dhofar’s strategic location, modern logistics, and natural resources attract both local and foreign investors. The first half of 2025 saw 697 new foreign investors, up from 266 during the same period in 2024 — a 160 percent increase. Al Badrani said government incentives, like the Golden Residency Programme, provide stability and encourage long-term investment.

The industrial sector also shows rapid expansion. By the end of June, authorities registered 1,156 new industrial licences, raising the total to 23,361. Additionally, 63 new investment licences were granted, highlighting Dhofar’s appeal for industrial and manufacturing projects.

Commercial activity continues to expand broadly. The first half of 2025 recorded 10,357 new commercial licences, bringing the cumulative total to 135,118. Automatic licensing grew as well, reaching 9,215 new licences with a cumulative total of 147,851. These figures reflect the government’s efforts to simplify processes and create a competitive business environment.

Officials emphasized that the Directorate continues to monitor economic indicators and strengthen collaboration between government entities and the private sector. Their goal is to sustain Dhofar’s momentum by promoting innovation, supporting entrepreneurs, and ensuring inclusive growth.

These efforts confirm that Dhofar’s economic growth is transforming the governorate into a key driver of Oman’s national economy, attracting investors, creating jobs, and boosting industrial development.
