Kuwait’s “Wasel” Platform: A Step Towards Smarter Governance

Kuwait’s government is taking a significant step towards smarter governance with the launch of the “Wasel” platform. Minister of State for Communications Affairs, Omar Al-Omar, emphasized that this government call center would enhance the integration between various government entities, ensuring quicker, more efficient services for both citizens and residents.

This statement came following the signing of a cooperation protocol between “Wasel” and the Ministry of Transport at the Central Authority for Information Technology headquarters. Al-Omar urged all government entities to collaborate with “Wasel” and leverage its capabilities to improve public communication and support the government’s digital transformation efforts.

The Ministry of Transport’s Undersecretary, Mishaal Al-Zaid, explained that this partnership fits with the government’s broader plan to utilize information and communication technology to improve institutional performance. It aims to provide services that are both accessible and cost-efficient, reducing wait times while maintaining high service quality.

Al-Zaid also stressed that this agreement follows the Council of Ministers’ directives and aligns with the Minister of Communications’ guidelines, which focus on improving cooperation between ministries and establishing clear mechanisms for service development. The initiative includes establishing a seamless, integrated service delivery process.

Additionally, Al-Zaid shared that the collaboration with “Wasel” is part of the ministry’s strategy to collect outstanding financial dues, which was introduced late last year. Citizens and residents can now use the platform to inquire about and pay their financial obligations. Inquiries about outstanding debts can be made by calling “Wasel” at “101,” with payments processed through the “Sahel” government app, the Ministry of Transport’s website, or in-person at regional service centers and government malls using the “K-Net” service.

Najat Ibrahim, Director General of the Central Authority for Information Technology, highlighted that the partnership supports the Authority’s vision to strengthen the government’s digital infrastructure and enhance the efficiency of government services. Ibrahim noted that collaborations, such as this one with the Ministry of Transport, are integral to improving service delivery through digital and direct channels.

The “Wasel” Government Center, accessible through “101,” serves as a unified communication platform, streamlining interactions between the public and government entities. This system ensures smoother processes, greater transparency, and faster responses to inquiries. It currently provides support for the unified government e-services application, “Sahel,” reinforcing the platform’s role in advancing Kuwait’s digital transformation and providing a seamless user experience.
