Digital Transformation Advances with Iraq’s New Data Centers

Iraq has taken a bold step in its digital transformation by launching its first state-owned data centers with Nokia. Therefore, this project signals a new era of modernization, stronger data security, and broader economic opportunity. Digital transformation remains central to this effort, guiding Iraq toward a more connected and competitive future.

The Ministry of Communications signed a landmark agreement with Nokia to build two advanced facilities in Baghdad. Specifically, one center will be located at the Al Intisar site, while the other will rise at the Al Rasheed exchange in the Al Senak district. Consequently, these carefully chosen sites will enhance efficiency, accessibility, and technical performance across Iraq’s networks.

Moreover, the data centers will follow global standards and use modern, resilient designs. They will safeguard sensitive information entirely under Iraqi management. As a result, both government agencies and private businesses will benefit from these secure facilities. In addition, keeping data inside the country will strengthen trust, improve security, and support long-term digital growth.

Officials emphasized that the project holds major importance for Iraq’s future. They explained that reliable data storage supports economic expansion, accelerates internet services, and enables fiber optic upgrades. Furthermore, these improvements will enhance public services and strengthen the foundations of Iraq’s digital transformation.

Nokia brings proven experience to this partnership. Previously, the company built a data center for the Ministry of Planning to support the national census. That earlier success boosted confidence in Nokia’s technical capabilities. Now, with this new collaboration, Iraq expects to accelerate digital transformation while reinforcing its digital backbone.

According to Nokia, the facilities will provide more than just storage. Instead, they will support governance, e-government platforms, and advanced digital tools. In turn, these capabilities will allow Iraq to manage information efficiently, secure data effectively, and keep pace with international innovations.

Ultimately, the initiative reflects Iraq’s wider ambition to modernize services, protect information, and create digital opportunities. By working with Nokia, Iraq demonstrates its readiness to lead the region in technological progress. As construction advances, digital transformation will enter a stronger phase, delivering benefits for both citizens and businesses.
