Iraqi Forces Strike Senior ISIS Targets in Kirkuk

Iraqi forces target ISIS leaders in a bold operation southwest of Kirkuk. Moreover, the mission in al-Hawija aimed to dismantle key elements of the terrorist group. This step clearly shows Iraq’s ongoing commitment to securing the region.

On Sunday, Iraqi special forces, supported by US Global Coalition troops, launched an airborne raid. First, two helicopters carried troops to the ground. Meanwhile, the other two provided aerial surveillance and secured the perimeter. As a result, the operation prevented the escape of targeted ISIS members.

Furthermore, the raid focused on multiple high-profile suspects. Iraqi forces target ISIS leaders with precision, highlighting their tactical planning. During the operation, a senior ISIS member and another individual were captured. Consequently, this demonstrates the continuous pressure on ISIS remnants in the area.

Despite declared military victories over ISIS, sleeper cells remain active. They exploit rugged terrain and valleys south and west of Kirkuk. In addition, the areas between Saladin and Kirkuk provide hiding spots and security gaps. Therefore, Iraqi forces target ISIS leaders to prevent these groups from regaining strength.

Yesterday, additional air landings occurred in al-Shay Valley, also known as Wadi al-Shay. Security sources confirmed the strikes hit suspected hideouts and weapons caches. Thanks to coordination between ground and air units, Iraqi forces moved efficiently across difficult terrain.

The Iraqi military emphasizes these raids are part of broader efforts. They aim to maintain stability and protect civilians. Additionally, local residents welcomed the operations, reporting improved security in previously threatened areas.

Security experts note continued vigilance remains essential. ISIS cells adapt quickly, hiding in valleys and mountains. Hence, Iraqi forces target ISIS leaders not only to capture individuals but to disrupt the network entirely. Each raid builds intelligence for future operations, reducing the group’s operational capacity.

As Iraq continues fighting ISIS, cooperation with international partners remains crucial. The Global Coalition provides support in logistics, surveillance, and coordination. Therefore, Iraqi forces target ISIS leaders repeatedly, signaling a determined approach to eliminate threats in Kirkuk and neighboring regions.
