Dubai has announced a collaboration with Elon Musk’s Boring Company to develop the Dubai Loop. This is an underground transportation system aimed at connecting the city’s most densely populated areas.
The announcement was made by Omar Sultan Al Olama, UAE Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications. This took place during a session with Musk at the World Governments Summit (WGS).
A Revolutionary Transport System
Al Olama highlighted that the Dubai Loop will provide seamless point-to-point travel, transforming the way people move across the city.
Musk addressed the summit virtually in a session titled “Boring Cities, AI, and DOGE”. He compared the project to a wormhole-like experience, allowing passengers to travel rapidly between locations.
“It’s going to feel like a wormhole—you’ll just pop out at another spot in the city. Once people try it, they’ll say, ‘Wow, this is amazing!’” Musk said.
Inspired by the Las Vegas Model?
While details about the Dubai Loop’s design remain unclear, speculation suggests it may follow the Las Vegas Loop model, developed by the Boring Company.
The Las Vegas Convention Center Loop (LVCC Loop) is an underground transit system that shuttles passengers in Tesla Model 3 cars. They travel at high speeds beneath the city’s convention center.
The Boring Company, founded by Musk in 2016, specializes in low-cost, high-speed tunnel systems. These are designed to alleviate urban traffic congestion. It has developed tunnel projects in the United States, with Dubai potentially becoming the next global city to adopt its futuristic underground transport solutions.
Further details on the project’s scope, timeline, and implementation are expected in the coming months.
