Bahrain and Singapore Strengthen Cooperation in Research and Development

Bahrain is reinforcing its collaborative ties with Singapore, focusing on expanding research, scientific, and academic exchanges between the two nations. His Excellency Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (DERASAT), highlighted the Kingdom’s commitment to fostering partnerships that align with mutual development and strategic objectives.

During a meeting at the Center’s headquarters in Awali, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah welcomed Dr. Mohamed Maliki bin Othman, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Education of Singapore, along with Singaporean Ambassador S. Premjith. The discussions centered on strengthening political, economic, and technological collaboration, leveraging the existing bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two countries. Bahrain’s recent accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia was also acknowledged as a key step in deepening ties.

The meeting explored ways to enhance communication between research institutions, academic bodies, and diplomatic entities, with a focus on sharing expertise in renewable energy, tourism, training, education, healthcare, and digital transformation. These initiatives aim to promote growth and prosperity for both nations and their people.

Dr. Mohamed Maliki bin Othman underscored the critical role of research centers in fostering strong diplomatic and economic relations. He emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation in investment, education, and technology, reinforcing both countries’ roles in promoting peace, intercultural dialogue, and sustainable development at the local, regional, and global levels.
