Oman heritage landmarks have earned regional recognition following their registration in the Arab Register of Architectural and Urban Heritage. The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism confirmed the inclusion of four historic sites during the 10th meeting of the Observatory of Architectural and Urban Heritage in Arab States. This meeting took place in Lebanon with participation from several Arab countries.
Specifically, the newly registered Oman heritage landmarks include Al Hamoudah Mosque in Jaalan Bani Bu Ali, Sohar Fort, Nizwa Fort, and Al Shawadhna Mosque. Their addition to the register reflects Oman’s commitment to cultural preservation and architectural heritage.
To begin with, Al Hamoudah Mosque, often called the “Domes Mosque,” is located in the South A’Sharqiyah Governorate. It stands among the oldest religious structures in the Wilayat of Jaalan Bani Bu Ali. Its domes and traditional design showcase classical Omani Islamic architecture.
