Iraqi Arms Control Initiative Gains Support During High Level Bilateral Talks

Iranian Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf voiced official support for Iraqi arms control initiatives in Baghdad. He met with Iraqi National Security Adviser Qasem Al-Aboudi to discuss security cooperation and regional stability. Furthermore, the Iranian representative reaffirmed Tehran’s full commitment to the bilateral security agreement between both nations. Consequently, bilateral discussions focused heavily on placing all regional armed groups under strict national legal frameworks.

National Security Adviser Al-Aboudi emphasized that the national constitution prohibits armed factions from threatening neighboring countries. He confirmed that the federal government actively advances structural plans to bring all weaponry under state authority. Furthermore, Ghalibaf endorsed the administrative program placing firearms under the direct command of the Prime Minister. Therefore, official diplomatic dialogue reinforces state sovereignty while advancing the overarching goals of Iraqi arms control.

The diplomatic endorsement followed previous comments by Ghalibaf praising Iran-aligned regional resistance groups a day prior. During those earlier remarks, the Iranian official characterized armed resistance factions as a significant source of strength. Furthermore, he noted that the political influence of these groups extends well beyond national Iraqi borders. However, official talks between security leaders focused strictly on institutionalizing defense networks under formal state oversight.

Bilateral security cooperation remains a vital priority for both neighboring governments to maintain regional stability. Officials continue working together to secure shared border areas and prevent unauthorized cross-border military activities. Additionally, federal authorities plan to accelerate legal procedures aimed at integrating independent forces into official security structures. Ultimately, joint diplomatic efforts help strengthen government institutions while ensuring long-term success for Iraqi arms control.
