UAE Launches Blue Visa for Environmental Leaders with 10-Year Residency Permit

The UAE has officially launched the first phase of its innovative blue visa program. This program offers a 10-year residency permit to individuals making exceptional contributions to environmental protection and sustainability. Announced at the World Governments Summit on Tuesday, the initiative will begin by granting blue visas to 20 thought leaders and innovators in sustainability.

The blue visa is aimed at individuals who have made significant efforts in protecting the environment, both land and marine. It also recognizes advancing sustainable technologies and improving air quality. The program is open to those involved in environmental action, including members of international organizations, companies, and non-governmental associations.

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, along with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP), will oversee the application process. Applications can be made directly through the ICP website or through nominations by UAE authorities.

Dr. Amna Bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, explained that the blue visa initiative is designed to leverage the contributions of global environmental leaders. This is to support the UAE’s ambitious national sustainability goals. “This initiative will help build a sustainable future for the UAE and the world,” she said.

Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, COP28 President and Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, also praised the program. He stated that it underscores the UAE’s commitment to innovation and the use of advanced technologies. These include artificial intelligence to address climate challenges and create opportunities for a sustainable future.
